  8. Vie65t Nam, shaped like the letter S, is located on the eastern coast of
  9. the Indochinese peninsula.  Vie65t Nam is bounded by China on the north, by
  10. Laos and Cambodia on the west, the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea
  11. on the east, and the Gulf of Thailand on the south.  Its length from
  12. north-to-south is around 1,000 miles.  Its maximum width is 350 miles, and
  13. its minimum width is less than 40 miles.  Its 1400-mile coastline is dotted
  14. with beautiful beaches.  With a total surface area of 128,052 square miles,
  15. Vie65t Nam's territory also encompasses a vast sea area including a large
  16. continental shelf and thousands of islands in the South China Sea and the
  17. Gulf of Thailand.  These include the Spratley (Tru7o72ng Sa) and Paracel
  18. (Hoa2ng Sa) archipelagoes and the island of Phu1 Quo61c (230 square miles).
